Correspondent

After a light shower on Monday, temperature in the State capital registered a sharp decline to 7 degree Celsius on Tuesday night even as the city braced itself for a chilly Christmas day.
There seemed to be no respite from the cold for this month as mercury would continue to descend till it reaches to a record low of 4 degrees on December 30.
As per weather report, the temperature for Christmas day will register a low of 6 and a high of 18, which is comparatively cold since the average temperature for the day in the past decade had registered a low of 12 and a high of 24, with last year registering 11 and 26 degree Celsius respectively.
Daytime temperature was at a pleasant 30 degrees in the early part of the month, which has now dropped 11 points to 19 degree Celsius, which is also a new low for the month.
The sun would remain hidden behind the clouds for most part of the month with the only sunny day likely to be on December 31.
The moderate rain and light shower on December 27 and 28 respectively could trigger the coldest night for the month.
Daylight as on Tuesday had dropped to 10 hours and 32 minutes while night time increased to 11 hours 20 mins.
World Meteorological Organization had earlier warned that the global weather event La-Nina conditions will continue during the winter of 2022-23 in the Northern Hemisphere, which is likely to remain through March 2023 thus prolonging the chilly winter.
