Kohima Highlanders, Elite B win MS Ahluwalia Basketball Tourney

Kohima Highlanders and Elite B have emerged champions in the men’s and women’s categories respectively, in the second edition of MS Ahluwalia Memorial 3×3 Basketball Tournament. The tournament was held at the JV Foundation Basketball Court between 26-28 October, 2023.

The DGP Nagaland, Rupin Sharma (IPS), was the special guest during the grand finale of the tournament.
The DGP, in his speech expressed his gratitude to the Ahluwalia patrons for providing a platform for young ballers of Nagaland. He reminisced his close ties with the Sikh Community, known for their selfless service to the world.
He mentioned that he was a keen sports enthusiast during his college days. He further said, money is not an option but in any other manner he will encourage sports, including lending police facilities for the sportspersons and organizers as the department has some decent sports facilities in Chumoukedima and Dimapur.

Besides these, the department can also provide accommodation for outstation teams in order to encourage youngsters. Additionally, he urged the youngsters to keep an eye out for recruitment notifications, emphasizing that being skilled in sports could provide an edge over other candidates.

In his address, Harjinder Singh Dolly thanked the DGP for his presence and congratulated the president and his team of Dimapur District Basketball Association for successfully conducting the tournament. Finally, he invited the teams for the third edition of MS Ahluwalia Memorial 3×3 Basketball Tournament next year.

    In both the women’s and men’s sections, the winners went home with Rs 30,000 and the runners up received INR 15000.

    The two MVPs received a cash prize of Rs 5000 and a customized jersey from ‘House of Screens’.
