KSU flags shortage of staff in govt schools in Mon district

Konyak Students’ Union (KSU) said it was disheartened and appalled to see that even after submitting a series of representations to the authority concerned regarding shortage of teachers and non-appointment of headmasters and assistant headmasters, high schools in Mon district were still in a sorry state.
The union claimed that Tobu Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS), Bumei Government High School (GHS), Angjangyang GHS, Loakkun GHS, Jaboka GHS, Mopong GHS, Chingkao GHS, Chen Town GHS, Wakching GHS and Shangnyu GHS were functioning without headmaster/assistant headmaster.
Further, Tobu GHSS Tobu and Phomching GHS were functioning with only five teachers each, while there was shortage of Science and English teachers at Angjangyang GHS.
The Hindi teacher of Bumei GHS and English teachers of Chen Town GHS and Chingkao GHS were transferred without relievers, while there was shortage of English, Social Science and Mathematics teachers at Mopong GHS and also shortage of English and Mathematics teachers at Tizit village GHS .
KSU questioned how it was possible to produce good results in the backdrop of all these hurdles, mentioning that the authority concerned was equally responsible for the poor results.
Further, the union body mentioned that most school infrastructure was in a dilapidated condition, while warning the schools not to entertain any proxy teachers, so as to do away with proxy culture.
It appealed to authority responsible to appoint headmasters at all GHS in Mon district and deploy adequate number of subject teachers as required before the start of the next academic session. It warned of shutting down schools where there were no subject teachers in the event of the failure of authorities to meet its demand.
Meanwhile, KSU successfully carried out Phase II of its education wheel tour on the theme “Education Reformation Vision 2021-2023” from November 1 to 8 and announced introduction of special coaching classes for Class 10 students of GHS for December and January 2023.
