KVKs organise ‘Poshan Abhiyan & tree plantation’

Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) in Mokokchung, Zunheboto and Peren organised the “national campaign on Poshan Abhiyan and tree plantation” on September 17.
Mokokchung: The national campaign on Poshan Abhiyan and tree plantation was organised by KVK Mokokchung at Salulamang village.
In a press release, KVK Mokokchung stated that the inaugural programme was led by Moainla Longkumer (TO) and keynote address was delivered by senior scientist & head, KVK Mokokchung. A short speech was delivered by village council Salulamang, chairman, S. Meren while vote of thanks was proposed by ACTO, Agronomy Tokiho Achumi.
At the programme, seeds provided by IFFCO, pea, broccoli, beetroot, tomato and saplings of ornamental plants were distributed to the participants.
At the technical session, awareness on nutritional garden with special reference to package of practices recommendation of seeds supplied was given by ACTO (Horti), Khekali Sema, biofortified crops by ACTO (Agronomy) Imtisenla while Tokiho Achumi spoke on nutri-cereals.
The programme ended with planting of saplings. Altogether, 71 participants attended the programme.
Zunehboto: KVK, NU Zunheboto organised the programme at Naghuto New Village.
In a press release, KVK Zunheboto informed that in the technical session, CTO (Hor) KVK NU, Zunheboto, Edenly Chishi briefed on nutrition, malnutrition and causes of malnutrition. Edenly also sensitised the participants on the importance of nutrigarden and bio-fortified varieties.
CTO (GPB/AGR) KVK, NU, Dr. Visakho Shunyu led the interaction session on nutri- cereal and their role on human health, during which different varieties of cereals grown in Zunheboto district were discussed. Dr. Visakho also spoke on the importance of consuming different types of cereals. The programme was chaired by Anganwadi worker Nishili, Naghuto New Baptist church, pastor Hito Sumi offered invocation while head GB Kanito Chishi delivered welcome address.
Vegetables and cereal seeds were distributed, followed by fruit tree plantation. Altogether 88 farmers, three Anganwadi workers and 15 student representatives participated in the programme.
Peren: KVK Peren and 25 Assam Rifles, Jalukie organised the national campaign at KVK Peren office Jalukie with ADC Jalukie Kiusumong Tikhir as special guest.
In a press release, KVK Peren stated that ADC Jalukie spoke on the initiation of the national mission on nutrition and launching of Poshan Abhiyaan. 25 Assam Rifles, Jalukie, major Mangangcha delivered a short speech elaborating about Poshan Abhiyaan while theme of the programme on “mahila aur swasthya and bacha aur shiksha” was highlighted by chairperson Dr. Patu K. Zeliang.
At the technical session, awareness on nutrition garden was given by Dr. Patu K. Zeliang, awareness on biofortified crops by Dr. L. Babita Devi while ACTO S.Sc, Z. James Kikon spoke on nutricereals.
Earlier, welcome address was delivered by PS & Head, KVK Peren, Dr. K. L Meena.
At the programme, 100 seed packets of winter crop vegetables were distributed to participants followed by tree plantation. Neem and indigenous tree saplings from the 25 AR Jalukie were also distributed to farmers. The programme was attended by 20 officials and 76 farmers.
