The first coordination meeting of Land Owners Unions of National Highways-2 was held at Sumi Community Hall, Majkong Ward, Mokokchung Town under the banner of “defending our common heritage” with Takoyuba, senior advocate and former MLA, as main speaker.
In a joint statement, Chubasenba, president (NH-2) LOU 156 km to 220 km, Mokokchung and Kiyeto Yeptho, chairman LOU NH-2, VK Area, Zunheboto stated that the landowners discussed various issues facing the affected landowners in the ongoing construction of NH stretching from Doyang Bridge in the south from 105 Km to 125 Km in V.K.Range, and from 155 Km to 220 Km in the north ending at Jhansi.
According to the signatories, the landowners appreciated the state government for constituting the Nagaland State Land Acquisition Authority (SLAA) with the chief minister and 24 others as the Authority.
They said that constituting SLAA was the need of the hour, adding that it would avoid litigations in court, resolve all issues pertaining to land acquisition in amicable manner, expedite the completion of the infrastructure project at the earliest and recognise the rights of the landowners by the authority in fair and transparent manner.
The meeting mainly deliberated on land compensation and damage to property attached to the earth with special emphasis on Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in the Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act 2013, including the role of NHAI, NHIDCL, BRO, and State PWD.
Further, the members resolved to work through mutual cooperation in defending the common heritage in cooperation with the various concerned authorities of the state at all level and the central government. The meeting was attended by the office bearers of respective unions from different villages.
