Main accused in child abuse case arrested

Staff Reporter

After seven-days of evading arrest, Dimapur police on Sunday apprehended Ronica, the main accused involved in the child abuse of three minors.
According to DCP (Crime) & PRO Dimapur Police, Bharat Laxman, Ronika was absconding since October 31 following a complaint lodged at Women Police station.
After the police formed a special team to apprehend her, PRO said Ronika was arrested around 10 p.m. on Sunday.
Considering the sensitivity of the case, he mentioned that the police were cautious in handling it, while also refusing to disclose the location where the accused had been kept.
PRO said Ronika would be interrogated and after which she would be produced in the court.
The co-accused, identified as one Amos Ezung, had already been arrested on November 3 in connection with the case, he said.
PRO appeals to public: Meanwhile, acknowledging widespread public anger, the PRO appealed to the public not to intervene in the case so that the matter could be dealt with as per the law. He also appreciated the public for extending their support in seeking justice for the victim.
LVC for befitting action
The Longwa Village Council (LVC) has strongly appealed the law enforcing authorities and the State government to award befitting punishment to both the culprits- Ronica and Amos Ezung for the inhumane act meted upon innocent minors. “That only will give us a slight feeling of justice for what they have done to our children,” LVC stated.
LVC chairman C. Noklem Konyak and secretary Longhi also warned against bailing out the culprits at any cost without consulting the offices of Konyak Union Dimapur, Phomching Area Union Dimapur, Longwa Village Council and Longwa Students’ Union.
The council demanded that the culprits should serve the full term of imprisonment they had earned.
In the event the culprits are freed prior to the fixed period of imprisonment, LVC said they will not remain as mere spectators, but would be compelled to show its resentment through actions, and for which the bailer(s) would bear the responsibility for the consequences.
LVC also hoped that every parent and every Naga would continue to stand with them, given the heinous crime the culprits have committed.
Meanwhile, LVC lauded the Dimapur Police, Child Welfare Committee Dimapur, Konyak Union Dimapur, Phomching Area Union Dimapur, Wayen Union Dimapur, press, YouTube channels, organisations and individuals who contributed/played a role in tracking down the main accused Ronica, involved in the child abuse of three minors from Longwa village.
The LVC also acknowledged Eden Hospital authority for treating the injured minors for free.
