Man held with gold paste at Imphal airport


Gold paste, weighing over 1.240kg and valued at approximately Rs 57.73 lakh, was seized from a passenger at the Imphal Airport on Thursday, an official source said on Friday.
Sleuths of the anti-smuggling unit of Imphal Custom Division arrested the man during a check based on specific information, the source said. The arrested man was identified as Md Abir Khan (38) son of Md Majahar Khan of Keirao Makting Manjor Engkol, Imphal East. Four bundles of gold paste weighing together 1.240kg were recovered from his rectum when he was searched by the sleuths. The foreign origin gold weighed 1,240 kg and its value was estimated at Rs 57,73,680, the source said.
The man was about to travel to Delhi by an Air India flight. He was booked under section 104 of Customs Act 1962, the source added.
