Man rapes own daughter; women demand capital punishment

‘Award capital punishment to the rapist of our own daughter’ shouted women protesters who stormed a court complex in Manipur’s Thoubal district on Wednesday.
A large number of womenfolk led by leaders of various women based bodies today stormed the court complex where a man who allegedly raped his biological daughter repeatedly was scheduled to be produced by the police.
the accused was arrested by the police on the charge of raping his own daughter who recently committed suicide, unbearable to bear the mental trauma following the ordeal.
The police, however, did not produce him in court. He was scheduled to produce be produced as his judicial remand period was ending.
Talking to reporters, co-convener Akoijam Jeteshori Devi of a joint action committee (JAC) formed in connection with the incident said that a harsh punishment must be awarded to the man who raped his own daughter.
“This man is a parasite. His act is highly disgraceful. He is not worth living among humans,” she said.
A harsh punishment must be awarded to this man so that such similar incidents do not recur again in the society.
Mention may be made that the 15-year-old girl who was allegedly raped by her own father attempted to commit suicide by consuming herbicide on July 31 last reportedly as he was unbearable to mental trauma she experienced.
She was allegedly raped on various occasions since 2016, after her parents separated.
When the matter came to light after she attempted suicide, the police arrested her father after registering a case against him under section 305 IPC and section 6 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012.
He is currently in judicial custody.
