Manipur Congress holds demonstrations on Adani row

“Save LIC-SBI” shouted the Congress workers who staged a demonstration outside the office of the Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) of India in Imphal’s Khoyathong on Monday.
The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) staged a demonstration against the Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre for allegedly indulging in “crony capitalism” and compromising administration to benefit Adani. The opposition staged the demonstration as a part of AICC’s nationwide protest, seeking an impartial investigation into the allegations made against the Adani group in the Hindenburg Research report. MPCC president K Meghachandra, CLP leader and former chief minister O Ibobi Singh, CWC member Gaikhangam and MLAs of the party were among others who took part in the demonstration. They demonstrated in front of the LIC office after a slogan shouting rally from Imphal Congress Bhawan to the office in the afternoon on Monday.
Placards and banners read as “Modi government, down-down”, “Lets save SBI-LIC”, “Down-down BJP” were also displayed during the demonstration.
“We are holding the demonstration showing solidarity to opposition parties (including AICC) seeking an impartial investigation into the allegations made against the Adani group in the Hindenburg Research report,” said former chief minister O Ibobi Singh.
He alleged that the Modi government was selling all the government properties and giving benefits to a few selected industrialists.
Taking a dig at the BJP government at the Centre for forcibly investing LIC and SBI money into the Adani group, he asked “How public money has been invested in the group and it must be probed.” He added that the issue of investment of public money through the LIC and SBI into the Adani group was a matter of serious concern and the Modi government has been evading questions in the Parliament. Manipur Congress supported the demand for a probe to be conducted either under the watch of the Chief Justice of India (CJI) or by a joint parliamentary committee (JPC), he added.
Such similar demonstrations were also held at different districts of the state, including Thoubal, Bishnupur, Kakching, Imphal East and others under the supervision of the respective Pradesh Congress Committees.
