A marathon to mark the “World Cancer Awareness Day” cum “Clean Election” was organized by department of Education St. Joseph University on February 4 in collaboration with District Election Office Chumoukedima, Nagaland.
The race was flagged off by Rev Fr Anish, Public Relations Officer, St Joseph University at 7th mile Junction Chumoukedima town at 6.00 am and culminated at St. Joseph University campus.
The participants assembled at the venue at 5:30 am, and with a short introduction on the importance of the occasion by Livi Yeptho, the coordinator of the programme who also welcomed everyone.
Rev. Father Sunny Professor , Department of Education who invoked God’s blessing, also thanked and appreciated the administration, police , general public and the officials of the Department of Information and Public Relations and management of St Joseph university for facilitating the event.
Rev Fr. Anish P.R.O., SJU, who flagged off the marathon called upon all to inspire others to be volunteers at the service of cancer affected persons adding that only then the theme of the day, “to close the care gap” in the context of Cancer will be possible.
He invited all the participants to rededicate oneself to democratic values in order to assure the society of rightful clean election.
The entire route was managed by the student volunteers and Senteinla, Aorenla , Dr Imkumnaro, the members of the faculty and Dr Rhonthunglo W Kithan, the Head of the Department’.
250 students participated enthusiastically in the race and considered it a great leaning experience.
The event concluded with prize distribution by Fr. Anish followed up by a group photo session.
The top finisher was Kaikho Boniface 4th semester department of commerce SJU, (S.No. 183) of B. Com, first runner up was Rukuvisal Jedediah Rhetso 2nd Semester department of Political Science and the third position was secured by Pekiye T Achumi 2nd Semester department of Political Science (Sl.No. 508) and the first ten winners were rewarded with certificates.
