Mokokchung and Phek district observed “Menstrual Hygiene Day” under the theme, “making menstruation a normal fact of life by 2030” on May 28.
In Mokokchung, the day was observed at General Nursing, Mid Wifery Hostel and different health units of Mokokchung district.
Speaking at the programme, RBSK Dr. Imsongienla briefed the gathering on the menstrual hygiene and said that most girls in the country have no idea of mensuration when they reach their menarche.
He said the day was observed so as to create more awareness on mensural hygiene, menstrual hygiene management, and normalise the discourse on mensuration.
Awareness on the importance of menstruation, menstrual hygiene, use and proper disposal of sanitary product were highlighted during the programme which was followed by distribution of sanitary pads.
Phek: With an objective to raise awareness on the importance of good menstrual hygiene practices and other aspects of menstruation, Menstrual Hygiene Day” was observed at Government residential hostel.
During the programme, resource person MO RBSK Phek Dr.Chikhopalu Vese highlighted the gathering on the significance of menstrual hygiene day. She talked on the importance of menstrual hygiene practices such as using clean and safe menstrual products and maintaining good personal hygiene. To mark the day sanitary pads were given to all the adolescent girls. The day was also observed across the districts in the Health Units and AMP, blocks.
