Metümnyo celebrated in Kohima, Shamator

Members of the Yimkhiung community in Kohima and Shamator celebrated Metümnyo festival, the premier festival of Yimkhiungs on Monday with pomp and gaiety.

Yimkhiung Union Kohima (YUK) celebrated Metümnyo festival at the residence of advisor for IPR & Village Guards, S. Keoshu Yimkhiung with advisor for Prisons, Printing & Stationery H. Haiying as special guest.
According to a DIPR report, H. Haiying urged upon the Yimkhiung community to be good decision-makers, to enjoy the fruits of hard work and to be thankful.
He appealed to the Yimkhiung community to make more positive contributions to Naga society and fulfill their duty as indigenous citizens of the country.
In his address, S. Keoshu Yimkhiung acknowledged the gathering and explained that Metümnyo had a comprehensive meaning and interpretation which was beyond the “soul-wrapping” feast.
He encouraged all to preserve and acknowledge the proper and authentic history of their culture and tradition.
The advisor also urged upon the people to educate and the younger generation in order to keep the legacy.
The programme was chaired by K. Asang & Runshito Lims, invocation was offered by YBBK pastor Wongtokiu, welcome note and significance of the festival were delivered by YUK president A. Akum and advocate K. Lotan respectively.
Highlights of the programme included songs by Yimkhiung Cultural Club and Youth Department YBBK, while ENPUK president and host S. Keoshu Yimkhiung exhorted the gathering.
The formal function was followed by a display of indigenous games such as top spinning, pole climbing, meat biting, tug-of-war, etc.
Thousands in Shamator celebrate Metümnyo
Thousands of people in Shamator celebrated Metümnyo festival with deputy commissioner (DC) Shamator, Thsuvisie Phoji as special guest and Yanba Showuba as host at the local ground, Shamator.
According to a DIPR report, the festival was organised by Thüneo (festival) committee Shamator Town.
The programme was also attended by SP Shamator, Amit Kumar and a host of officers.
At the festival, YTC president, S. Throngso invoked festival blessings and delivered Metümnyo greetings.
Meanwhile, Kuthur village also celebrated Metümnyo with Zungkum Chang as special guest.
