MHPF to abstain from I-Day celebrations

Alleging the state government’s failure to retain Mopong EAC under ADC Tobu administration, the Mopong Hongkong Public Forum (MHPF) has resolved to abstain from participating in the forthcoming Independence Day 2022 celebrations.
In a release, MHPF president A Neangba Konyak and general secretary H Angnyei Konyak stated that the forum would restrict vehicular movement across Mopong jurisdiction. The forum also stated that all the government offices within the jurisdiction of Mopong EAC Circle would remain closed from 6am till 6pm and disallow public or student to participate in the event.
MHPF stated that Mopong EAC was shifted from ADC Tobu administration to Angjangyang SDO(C) in the year 2014 without the knowledge of the people, adding no consultation was made with the people of Mopong regarding the same.
It said the public of Mopong have repeatedly appealed to the state government for the retention of Mopong EAC under ADC Tobu, but there was no positive response from the government till date.
On February 4, 2022, the forum said the civil society groups of Tobu Mopong and Angjangyang was invited for a discussion at the commissioner’s office, wherein details of were shared to the committee.
However, it said there was no positive response even after lapse of three years and repeated appeals made to the state government.
As such, the forum said it had no other option, but to abstain from participating in the celebrations. MHPF has cautioned individual and all the concerned to strictly adhere to its decision in order to avoid any untoward incidents that could arise.
