Militants hurl bomb into house in Manipur

Amid the tightened security measures, suspected militants lobbed a bomb into a house in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district on Tuesday night , official sources said on Wednesday.
Suspects lobbed the bomb at the house of Kharka Prasad Sharma (71) at Toribari village, five kilometers on the west of Kangpokpi police station around 7 pm, police said.
No one was hurt in the blast which was triggered in one of the rooms of the house.
The impact of the blast however caused extensive damage to properties of the room. Fortunately no family members were in the room at the time of the blast, it added. Soon after the blast, police in the district and troops of Assam Rifles rushed to the house and took stock of the situation.
They also launched a massive search operation in and around the village to nab the perpetrator(s). There were no reports of any suspect picked up in the operation.
The blast comes even as security measure are tightened across the state to maintain law and order in view of the Sangai Festival, a 10-day tourism festival that commenced on November 21. To maintain law and order and flush out anti-social elements, police and security forces have been conducting mopping operations at various sensitive areas across the state well ahead of the festival.
The festival which kicked off on Monday (November 21) will last till November 30 and is being held as many as 13 venues across the hills and valley districts.
