Minister, Public Works Department (PWD) housing and mechanical engineering. P. Bashang Chang paid a maiden visit to District Hospital Tuensang (DHT) on Saturday and assured to improve the facilities of the hospital and overall health sector of the district.
A press release by PA to minister informed that Chang’s visit was part of his “exuberance tour program” and in line with his election promise to improve the health sector while emphasizing more on “overhauling and development of health system.”
Chang lamented that patients from the district incur more expenditure while availing treatment from outside the district due to the unavailability of facilities and shortage of specialised doctors and technicians at DHT.
Underscoring the need to improve facilities at DHT in order to provide better health services to the public, the minister said he was committed to support and cooperate in building a “healthy hospital”.
He also encouraged the doctors and hospital staff to ensure satisfactory service to the patients and ensure that they were provide a “friendly environment”.
The minister also interacted with the staffs and enquired about the various areas that needed improvements. In the course of interactions, he learnt of the” humongous enhancement” requirement of the hospital.
Chang also expressed pleasure over the cleanliness of the hospital and encouraged the entire medical staff to continue to strive even more “vigorously” for the overall improvement of the hospital and health service delivery system.
During the visit, the minister inspected the hospital wards, ten bedded ICU, Labor room and dialysis centre and interacted with the inpatients and relatives.
DHT medical superintendent, Dr. Puse Leigise highlighted various challenges and grievances faced by the hospital such as non-availability of specialized doctors, the need to renovate the staff quarter among other issues.
