In a bid to secure a better future for the youth of Nagaland, Inspector General of Assam Rifles (IGAR-North)– under the aegis of Director General of Assam Rifles signed an MoU with corporate partner Axis Bank and training partner National Integrity and Educational Development Organisation (NIEDO) at IGAR (North) headquarters here on Friday to set up late Capt N Kenguruse, MVC Centre of Excellence and Wellness at Chieswema.
Speaking as chief guest on the occasion, Higher & Technical Education minister Temjen Imna Along said the noble initiative would hone the skill and talents of those children who, due to poor economic condition, lack access to high quality education facilities. He lauded Late Capt N Kenguruse for his brave medal-worthy act that was termed as the “epitome of nationalism” and termed him as a “true Naga” who laid down his life for the nation.
He requested the stakeholders to hone the skills of youth as 25,000 to 30,000 certificate holders were produced each year in the State, but very few had skills.
He encouraged students to pursue their dreams and not run after government jobs alone, nor come to politicians for backdoor appointments. Along complimented Assam Rifles, NIEDO, Axis Bank and academicians for their initiative and hoped that the centre would produce skilled youth, while acknowledging them for helping the people of the Northeast, including Nagaland.
Conceptualised as a year-long fully residential coaching and mentoring facility for students from economically weaker and underprivileged sections to prepare them for competitive examinations, the project is expected to be fully functional for the first batch of 30 students by the first week of July this year.
The programme will mentor and guide children and aid their future growth by providing them value-based education and training on soft skills, critical life competencies, leadership, personal conditioning, personality development, etc. It will also have wellness programmes, vocational training and end-to-end grooming to aid them in becoming a productive human resource for the nation.
The MoU was signed in the presence of Along, Maj Gen. Vikas Lakhera, IGAR (N), by Brig Herjinder Singh, DIG, 5 Sector Assam Rifles. Opening address was delivered by IGAR (N), while speeches were also delivered by NIEDO CEO Dr Rohit Srivastava and Axis Bank’s Rudrapriyo Ray.
