Naga flag not negotiable: NSCN (I-M)

Amid renewed push for solution to the Naga political issue, NSCN (I-M) on Thursday said that the “Naga national flag that symbolize Naga political identity is not negotiable.”
NSCN (I-M), in its editorial of the monthly news bulletin “Nagalim Voice”, said “It is unthinkable for NSCN to accept Naga national flag as cultural flag as hinted by Government of India.”
There have been reports that the Centre was not averse to allow the Naga national flag for cultural purposes and also incorporate a mutually acceptable part of the Naga constitution in the Constitution of India.
NSCN (I-M) said that when the high profile Framework Agreement was signed on August 3, 2015, Prime Minister Narendra Modi went “histrionic as he called up all political leaders who matters to announce that he has solved the longest running insurgency movement in Southeast Asia.”
“Today, NSCN is watching how the same Prime Minister of India is going to handle Framework Agreement with NSCN and Naga people that he himself took so much pride and credit,” NSNC (I-M) said.
“Such was the depravity on the part of Government of India that every good thing gained during the 25 years of Indo-Naga political talks is facing the risk of going down the drain,” it said.
NSCN (I-M) said the NSCN in particular and the Nagas in general were concerned of the “habitual betraying nature of the Government of India after signing agreement after agreement”.
It said that the unfortunate development was tantamount to political blackmail, but it was “un-nerved in the face of such brinkmanship.”
“In spite of threat and pressure NSCN will never lent itself to committing an act of abomination before God and treason before the Naga people,” it stated.
