The badly beaten up and dead body of a supporter of JD(U) candidate under Koridang constituency, who was reportedly abducted by unidentified persons Tuesday night between New Camp and Satier, was found in a forested site near the same area Wednesday.
The victim was identified as Imkongchiba Kichu (34), a mechanical engineering graduate.
According to Police, the victim and another person, both from Chungtia village, were reported missing since Tuesday night. While the other person returned home later, Imkongchiba’s body was found by a road in a forested area on Wednesday.
According to sources, the deceased along with his friend were returning from Chungtiayimsen village (New Chungtia) when they were waylaid by some unidentified persons between New Camp and Satier at around 9 p.m. Tuesday night.
The unidentified person(s) physically assaulted the victim’s friend and left him at the spot while the victim (Imkongchiba) was reportedly taken away, sources said.
The news of this incident came to light only after the victim’s friend reached the village and informed the villagers about what took place. On searching the area, villagers found the victim on Wednesday afternoon around 3 p.m. near the surrounding area where he was reportedly taken away. The body bore unmistakable signs of brutality inflicted on the victim.
Meanwhile, Chungtia Medemchanger Putu Menden (village council) in a statement, by its chairman N. Bendang, condemned the murder of its member by unknown miscreants and sending shockwaves among the people of Chungtia village.
The council asserted that there was no justification for such gruesome act and demanded that the concerned authorities probe the murder thoroughly and award befitting punishment to those involved so that such “barbaric crimes were not repeated”.
CSU: Chungtia Students’ Union has condemned the cowardly and inhuman act committed against one of its bona fide member, Imkongchiba Kichu. CSU president Mangkoneken and general secretary Chubakatila Kichu said that Imkong was brutally murdered by unknown miscreants and was left to die alone.
Urging the district authorities apprehend the culprits, CSU cautioned it would not rest till justice was delivered as per the law.
The union further conveyed heartfelt condolence to the bereaved family and prayed that Almighty God grant them solace.
It may be mentioned that there are four contestants for the 28 Koridang assembly seat- sitting MLA and former NPF and NDPP member Imkong L. Imchen (BJP); Chalukumba Ao (JD-U); Maj (Retd) Toshikaba (NPF) and Talitsuba Imchen (Ind).
