Nagaland Catholic Choral Fiesta on Nov 5


Catholic Association of Nagaland (CAN) will be organising Nagaland Catholic Choral Fiesta on November 5, 2022 from 4 p.m. onwards at Capital Cultural Hall, Kohima.
Informing this during a press conference at Christ The King Church, Kohima, CAN president, Johnny Ruangmei said the event would be held under the theme “Una Fide Una Voce” meaning, One Faith One Voice. He disclosed that the primary focus of the event was to bring oneness of the church irrespective of race, class or economic background.
He said the Catholic church was universal and therefore the event plans to promote that message of being under one roof and with any classifications.
A total of 9 choirs have been shortlisted out of 20 who appeared for the auditions held in the month of August this year.
Ruangmei informed that the event was just the beginning and hoped to make the event as part of the annual Hornbill Festival from next year onwards.
The special guest for the event would be Nagaland chief minister advisor, Abu Metha, Task Force for Music and Arts (TaFMA) advisor Theja Meru would be guest of honour while Bishop of Kohima Diocese Most Reverend Dr James Thoppil will be the chief host of the fiesta.
He added that the event would be a ‘Gala Red Carpet Day’ for the Catholics and entry ticket to the event has been categorised as donors, patron and well-wishers. He said the reason behind making the event a ticket system was to indicate that the talents of the participating youths were dearly valued.
NCYM president, Dr. Lawrence Kithan informed that during the competition the top five choirs would be selected from among the 9 finalists for the final round.
The winner of the fiesta will walk away with a cash prize of Rs. 2 lakhs, first and second runners-up will receive Rs. 1.5 and Rs. 1 lakh respectively while the remaining two finalists would each receive Rs. 50,000. Besides choral songs from the contestants, guest artistes including Mengu Suokhrie is slated to make special appearance during the event.
Each of the 9 choral teams will have a total of 25 members and are from the districts of Kohima, Wokha, Tseminyü, and Phek.
The fiesta will be organised by the Catholic Association of Nagaland (CAN) in collaboration with Nagaland Catholic Youth Movement (NCYM), Nagaland Catholic Women Association (NCWA) and it’s 55 parishes and centres across the state affiliated with CAN.
