Nagaland Cricket Association felicitates Nagaland Cricket teams

Nagaland Cricket Association (NCA) held a program to felicitate the Nagaland Cricket team members who have qualified for the Elite group– senior men’s team, senior women’s team, and under 19 boys team at Niathu Resort, Chumoukedima on June 18.
Addressing the gathering, special guest and advisor to Chief Minister, Abu Metha congratulated the teams for qualifying for the Elite group and reminded the players that there were hundreds of people from different professions who worked tirelessly behind the scenes. Describing Cricket as an education, Metha said cricket teaches respect and teamwork, and tests character where one would have to make decisions according to the situation. He also remidned that the most-watched human activity in the world is sports and sports unify people, adding that it understands no language, tribe, or race.
Abu while encouraging the players, also reminded them that once they wear the Nagaland jersey they become the ambassadors representing two million Nagas. He said there is no shortcut in sports, and one has to perform on the ground with sheer hardwork.
NCA president Kechangulie Rio, in his address, said that the main purpose of organizing such an event was to recognize and encourage the players for their achievements both at the national and state level. He said Nagaland Cricket has witnessed perpetual growth over the years and acknowledged the three teams that have qualified for the Elite group. While all the 11 district cricket associations participated in the recently concluded Inter-district tournament that was held at Sovima Cricket Ground from June 4-18, the Dimapur District Cricket team won the tournament and Wokha team was runner’s up. Group and individual prizes were also presented for the event. Short speeches were also delivered by DC Dimapur Sachin Jaiswal, DC Chumoukedima Abhinav Shivam, All Indian Badminton Association vice president Dr. Watizulu Suzumeren, former Indian football team captain Rennedy Singh, and players and supporting staff.
NCA vice president Herato Sukhalu delivered the vote of thanks while NCA joint secretary Ahidur Rahman chaired the program.
