Nagaland Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (NIMSR) Phriebagie, Kohima, has received the Letter of Permission (LoP) from the Medical Assessment & Rating Board (MARB) of National Medical Commission (NMC) on Monday for 100 MBBS seats for the academic year 2023-24.
This was contained in a letter addressed to the dean/principal of NIMSR from member/president of MARB. In the letter the member/president MARB stated “I am directed to refer your application for starting of new medical college at Nagaland Institute of Medical Sciences & Research, Phirebagie, Kohima under Nagaland University, Kohima with annual intake of 100 MBBS seats u/s 26(1)(a)(b) and 28(1)(2) of the NMC Act, 2019 for the academic year 2023-2024.”
According to MARB, permission for starting the MBBS course and admission of students would be for such time the first batch of students admitted against the above course appear for the final examination in the subject.
The MARB also directed college authorities to take up the matter for recognition of the qualification under section 35(2) of the NC Act at the time of first batch admitted against the sanctioned intake of 100 MBBS seats appear the final examination with National Medical Commission.
This LoP was also confirmed by commissioner and secretary Health & Family Welfare and NIMSR executive committee chairman Y Kikheto Sema. In a release Kikheto termed the LoP as realisation of a “great moment for the people of Nagaland, as aspiration of the people and commitment of the government.
Kikheto also thanked the MARB and NMC for the prompt action in granting LoP within a week of permitting Letter of Intent (LOI). He said this reflected their sincerity towards Nagaland. He also thanked chief minister Neiphiu Rio and chief secretary J Alam for their sincere guidance and support to make the dream come true.
Kikheto also expressed gratitude to H&FW minister P Paiwang Konyak for leading the department in fulfilling the requirement of the NMC in a short period after assuming the office.
He also expressed gratefulness to all officers and staff of the H&FW department led by principal director Dr Vibeituonuo M Sachu as well as staff of NIMSR led by director-cum-dean Prof Dr Soumya Chakraboty for their unrelenting efforts in establishing the medical college.
Kikheto also thanked the Kohima Village Council for constant support and the contractors, whom he further urged to devote all their time and resources to complete the unfinished works within the stipulated period.
Sema conveyed his best wishes to all MBBS aspirants of NEET (UG) and urge them to be a part of the unfolding history as the first batch of NIMSR. He also appealed to all to extend their valuable support and cooperation to make the institute grow from strength to strength.
