Departments of Horticulture and Agriculture from Nagaland are taking part in the three-day Expo-One organic North East conference-cum-Industry and Organic FPO Conclave at Khanapara Guwahati, Assam. The three-day conclave kicked off on Friday and was organized by the Department of Agriculture Assam and Sikkim state cooperative supply and marketing Federation Ltd.(SIMFED) and APEDA.
The NE organic conclave aimed to promote organic farming and prospects and potentials, marketing strategies, overcoming logistics issues and industry mentorships to emerging FPOs.
Highlighting on organic farming under MOVCDNER in Nagaland, additional director, Agriculture, Jacob Yanthan informed that State has already covered and certified 13,000ha and formed 38 Farmers Producers Organizations (FPOs) under Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North East Region (MOVCDNER) from Agriculture and Horticulture departments. He informed that another 10,000 ha was in the process for certification and for which a total of 23,000 ha during the third phase will be covered under the scheme and about 23,000 farmers has been benefited.
Yanthan further said that the main objectives in participating the NE first Expo for organic exhibition events was to showcase and promote the products that were produced in the state of Nagaland.
During the events the department of Agriculture and Horticulture will also displayed -cum-sale and showcasing various organic products like pineapple, oranges, ginger, Naga king chilly, oilseeds, etc. The exhibition was graced by minister of Agriculture, Horticulture Government of Assam, Atul Borah.
