Nagaland win 20 medals at NE Sports Meet

Nagaland team won 20 medals (4gold, 4 silver and 12 bronze) in the North East Regional Sports Meet that culminated on Tuesday evening at Imphal.
Nagaland finished in third positions behind Manipur in first and Assam in second position.
In a boxing discipline, Archana Thapa won gold medal in 48kg and was named as the best promising boxer in women category.
This was informed by Zhopovi Zecho, chef de mission of Nagaland team.
Nagaland was led by Zhopovi Zecho DSO Kohima as chef de mission. A total of 78 athletes with 11 officials from Nagaland participated in five disciplines -archery, badminton, boxing, football and table tennis.
The week-long Northeast regional sports week saw around 700 participants with coaches and officials of seven northeastern states namely host team Manipur, Nagaland, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Sikkim and Tripura.
The event was held in commemoration of the 75th years of Independence and celebrating Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav organized by the Youth Affairs and Sports Department funded by the North Eastern Council (NEC).
In badminton, Vikehietuo Kense and Tovali Shohe secured bronze in mix doubles and Chubanungla and Yashikala bagged bronze in women’s double.
In girl’s category boxing, gold medals were won by Archana Thapa secured gold medal in 48kg, and SH. Shila Devi in 52 kg, while H.Jamuna Devi in 57kg and Sanju in 63kg bagged silver, and Nirmal in 60kg and Monu in 73kg secured the bronze medals.
In boy’s boxing, Sohil secured gold medal in 60kg, Sachin won silver in 57kg and Ruokuovotuo in 75kg, Jhonny Lotha in 70kg bagged bronze.
In archery, Edikunu Rikha fetched gold in recurve division. Men team won bronze medal both in compound and recurve and women team took bronze medal in both compound and recurve.
In mix team event, Nagaland won bronze medal in both compound and recurve. In table tennis, Nagaland women team won bronze medal in team event.
Meanwhile, in football, Nagaland girl’s team lost their semifinal match against host team Manipur 0-4.
