‘National eye donation fortnight’ underway at DHP

The 37th National Eye Donation Fortnight under “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav” commenced on August 25 at District Hospital, Peren (DHP). The 15-day celebration of the gift of sight would culminate on September 8.
A press release by Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Peren office stated that at the inaugural programme, DHP medical superintendent, Dr. K. Limatula Ao delivered the keynote address while SMO DHP, Dr. Y. Renbothung Lotha exhorted the gathering.
The doctors encouraged the general public to come forward for eye donation and raise awareness of the life changing impact of eye donation and the gift of sight.
Resource person, Dr. Lydia Ndang (Ophthalmologist) spoke on the eligibility criteria, age, and indication for donor. She said only person with corneal blindness are eligible for donor eye and the need to retrieve the cornea from the donor within 6 to 8 hours after death.
The programme concluded with signing of pledge card for eye donation.
