Native Feathers beat Puiteing to lift 1st PDFA Cup

Native Feathers on Saturday lifted the first PDFA Cup after defeating of Peren District Football League (PDFL) 2022 champions Puiteing FC 4-3 in the final via tie-breaker after the match ended 1-1 in the regulated time. The month long PDFL was organized by Peren District Football Association (PDFA) at Jalukie ‘B’ village ground. Earlier, in the league round, Puiteing FC emerged as the winner of PDFL and the top four teams of the league vied for the coveted PDFA Cup title.
In the thrilling final, it was Ngulgoulal Khongsai who drew the first blood in the 20th minute but Puiteing FC’s Kawijibo scored the equalizer in the 86th minute to determine the winner through penalty shoot-out. Earlier, Native Feathers started on an attacking mode but wasted number of scoring opportunities. Native Feathers continued to dominate but the result was same as Puiteing FC scored the equalizer as the match finished 1-1 in the regulated time. Native Feathers pocketed Rs. 50,000 with trophy and certificates and runners-up Puiteing FC Rs. 30,000with citations.
In individual’s award: Kenumdi Siarau of Barak FA was named player of the tournament; Wibonjibo of Puiteing FC as emerging player; Haileuyibe Iranggau of Lekie Mtei FC and Kenumdi Siarau of Barak FA won the highest scorers award; Lamsanggin Hangsing of Native Feathers was named as best midfielder; Salu Kulim of Puiteing FC as best defender and Ngamsi Dailiam of Native Feathers as best defender.
The final match was graced by executive engineer PHED WSSO, Er. Ichirang Zeliang as guest of honour.
Addressing the closing ceremony, the guest of honour lauded the Peren District Football Association (PDFA) for organising the historic first football league in the district to promote football to higher heights.
As a football enthusiast, Ichirang called upon the football fans to continue supporting the football fraternity adding that without the fans, football would have not been lively as it always used to be. He also exuded confidence that the league would grow in the near future and number of teams and clubs in the league will be increased in near future. Ichirang hoped that through this league professional footballers in the district would be produced.
