Act East Policy has brought about positive changes on ground in the Northeastern region of the country, Union minister for labour & employment and environment, forest and climate change Bhupender Yadav claimed on Saturday.
The Union minister who arrived in Imphal on a two-day visit in Manipur today visited Tamenglong district headquarters where he took stock of the developmental work in the district.
The meeting with the district level officers of various departments of the state government discussed ways to accelerate growth in the region.
After the meeting, the Union minister told the media that positive changes were witnessed in the northeast region of the country under the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre.
He said that he paid the visit in the district to assess development works taken up in the district to know the ground reality.
Later, in his Facebook page, the Union minister wrote “Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Act East Policy has made visible positive difference on ground.”
About the district, he further wrote “Vibrant culturally and rich in biodiversity, Tamenglong is a visitor’s delight. The region has immense potential for growth and the government remains committed to harnessing its full potential.”
The Union minister also paid a visit to Chiulon village of the district and interacted with the villagers to hear their grievances in a simple function. The villagers felicitated the visiting Union minister with a cultural dance performance.
During the function, the Union minister handed over Rs 12,000 each to two selected underprivileged children of the village as assistants for their study and medical care.
Yadav further distributed beneficiary cards of various social security schemes to the villagers.
The Union minister will halt the night at the district headquarters.
