Neiba Kronu inaugurates badminton court


Minister of Planning and Co-ordination of Nagaland, Neiba Kronu, inaugurated the badminton court and stadium renovation at Badminton Indoor Stadium, Officers Hill, Kohima on Wednesday.
Kronu called upon the gathering to take advantage of the facility and make maximum use of it, adding that they need to improve in the field of games and sports and it was high time to catch up with the fast-moving world. Introspecting the status of the state in sports sector, Kronu said “we had not made records till now however, encouraged the crowd to pull up their socks and march forward”.
On sports infrastructure in all districts and other places, Kronu informed that under special infrastructure programme, they would try to reach out to the other districts in the days ahead for the promotion of excellence in sports and to create opportunities for athletes in the state.
Giving a report on the repair and renovation of indoor badminton stadium, N Wati presented the construction committee report. He revealed that the state government had allocated a sum of Rs. 50 lakh and acknowledged the Youth Resources & Sports Department (YR&S) for allocation of the renovation work.
Wati also highlighted in brief the various works carried out in renovating the Indoor badminton stadium such as procurement of world-class flooring approved by BWF from Taufik International Professional Sports Flooring along with brighter lighting installed replacing the old ones. Bathrooms have been installed with new fixtures, along with VIP bathroom, male and female dressing area have been provided and painting of the whole stadium inside and outside was carried out. New stage for various programmes has been constructed. He also informed that rain protected entrance at the frontside, along with water harvesting facility with storage capacity of about 16,000 litres has been installed and repairment of the roof has been initiated however, due to shortage of funds, a major renovation of the roofing is in dire need in the near future.
Above all, it was noted that the renovation of the stadium was carried out with contribution from the members of the Capital Shuttlers Club, which will be re-imbursed on release of funds.
Earlier in the function, the programme was led by information & publicity secretary KDBA, Er. Medozhazo Rutsa, invocation by ex-deacon KABA, Alemtoshi and welcome speech was delivered by vice president KDBA, Er. Sabu Yashu.
An exhibition match was also played between NBA president, Kesonyu Yhome and minister, Neiba Kronu against KDBA president K Sophie teamed up with deputy commissioner, Shanavas C.
