Train passengers of Nagaland including nearby Karbi Anglong district have been deprived of essential train services after Northeastern Frontier Railway(NFR) systematically rescheduled timings and stoppages since 2020.
However, the state government has remained silent and hardly bothered to address the issue despite being highlighted on several occasions in this newspaper for decades. For instance, the daily Nagaland Express introduced in 2011 ran between Dimapur to Guwahati. The train now operates from Dibrugarh to Dimapur to Guwahati since 2020.
Also the BG Express which operated daily from Guwahati to Dimapur and back has been extended to Mariani since 2020. It may also be noted that Nagaland has also lost the Jan Shatabdi introduced in 1996 from Dimapur to Guwahati as per railways scheme. The train has been taken to Jorhat town.
Dimapur used to handle huge volume of passengers and earn the second highest revenue for the NFR.
However for unexplained reasons NFR has systematically reduced stoppage of trains and taken away the three trains mentioned above from Nagaland. The trains that pass through Dimapur daily are: Rajdhani (2 trains), Inter City Express, Kamrup Express, Guwahati passenger, Rangiya, BG Express, Nagaland Express, Jan Shatabdi and Awadh Express.
Trains passing through Dimapur once or twice a week: Amritsar Express (weekly), Chandigarh (twice a week), Bangalore Express (weekly), Silchar Express (weekly), Lok Maya Tilak (weekly ) and Vivek Express (twice a week).
