No solution and no poll campaign in Dec: Rio

Amidst a largely felt belief that solution to the Naga political issue was only a matter of signing by stakeholders which could happen at any time even before Christmas and before scheduled polls to be held by February 2023, Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio on Monday revealed that there may be no breakthrough in the ongoing Naga talks before Christmas.
He disclosed this while talking to media persons on the sidelines of a programme at Chiephobozou. Rio said that the negotiating parties have returned to Nagaland from Delhi and that talks would be resumed after the festive season.
It may be mentioned that NSCN (I-M) delegation led by chief negotiator and ato kilonser, Th. Muivah returned to Nagaland on December 12 after being in Delhi for over a month. During the stay in Delhi, the NSCN (I-M) held series of meetings with Government of India’s representative for Naga Talks, AK Mishra.
Rio said that all 60 elected members who had come together (opposition-less government) in support of solution to the Naga political issue, have decided that none of them will carry out any election campaign in December.
He also disclosed that the state government had also conveyed to the Naga political groups that if a solution did not arrive, the elected members would take part in the election and for which the legislators should not be blamed as they (MLAs) were just facilitators.
“If solution does not come and election is announced, we have to participate and they should not misunderstand,” he said.
