Now, PPC & KTC warn members from filing nominations for polls

Khiamniungan Tribal Council (KTC) and Phom People’s Council (PPC) on January 22, issued stern warning against anyone from their respective tribe, who file nomination for the forthcoming election.
It may be recalled that Konyak Union on January 18, issued a stern warning against filing nominations, followed on January 21 by United Sangtam Likhüm Pümji and Chang Khulei Setshang.
All these apex tribe bodies have resolved against participation in the forthcoming election on the basis of the August 26, 2022 ENPO resolution to not take part in the election, “until government of India grant the demand ENPO for a separate statehood befittingly”.
KTC: President Khiamniungan Tribal Council (KTC) M. Thangou, president Khiamniungan Menyiu Hoikam (KMH) Newkhai and president Khiamniungan Students’ Union (KSU) Shangchiu in a joint statement informed that the decision was made at a joint consultative meeting held on January 13 with all frontal organisations and village councils at Noklak.
Besides reaffirmation on supporting the August 26 resolution, the signatories disclosed that the house directed that no individual should file nomination under Khiamniungan jurisdiction. They also warned that KTC should not be held responsible for any circumstances if any individual failed to abide by the directive. KTC further endorsed and empowered KSU, KMH, village councils, Noklak Town Sectors’ Union and village public organisations to fully implement and act upon the directives.
PPC: Phom People’s Council (PPC) at its emergency meeting held on Saturday at the Council hall, also reaffirmed to implement the August 26 resolution and resolved to “permanently expel” anyone who file nomination papers for the assembly polls from Phom land.
It also warned that the respective villages of the persons filing nomination would be solely held responsible.
The house also fully endorsed the respective village councils, Phom Students’ Conference and its federating units and Phomla Hoichem to fully implement and act upon the resolution.
