NPCC slams BJP over Rahul meet with pastor

Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has hit out at the BJP for criticising Rahul Gandhi, after a video went viral where Rahul was seen conversing with George Ponniah, a pastor in Tamil Nadu’s Kanyakumari.
Ponniah, was heard telling Rahul that Jesus is the “only real God”.
NPCC president K. Therie reiterated that BJP hates to hear that “Jesus is a real God.” He said BJP’s resentment against Rahul Gandhi for meeting pastors in Tamil Nadu on his ‘Bharat Jodo Padhyatra’ indicated that “they are mentally unsound and unable to perceive normally.”
Therie said being a national leader, Rahul had the right to give audience to any citizen of India who wished to meet him.
Therie also said pastors too have the right to meet Rahul and to express what they believe. He said it was not only pastors, but all Christians believe Jesus is the real God.
He reiterated that the belief among Christians that Christ “lives among us every moment” does harm no one nor any other religion. “It is one’s individual faith. Freedom of religion and worship is guaranteed in the Constitution,” said Therie.
Therie said BJP fully understood the provisions of the fundamental rights in the Constitution and ought to change its hatred towards other religions and join Congress’ Bharat Jodo.
He claimed that BJP has done nothing good for the Hindu community but only managed to discredit the religion in the eyes of the world.
Therie said even if BJP may have got the “Hindu vote”, it was destroying the peace and harmony of society and the vibrant economy of the Nation that was left by the UPA.
Therie said his party has nothing against Hinduism as religion was personal and an acceptance of one’s inner mind.
While reminding BJP that no religion teaches hate, but love, truth and peace, Therie appealed to BJP to stop exploiting the sentiments of innocent Hindu believers for political gain and instead educate citizens to love and be kind to each other.
It may be noted that Rahul Gandhi’s yatra managers probably did not undertake due diligence before making him walk into a landmine by arranging for the meeting with Fr. Ponniah, who had made controversial comments in the past.
