Along with rest of the country, the office of engineer-in-chief, Nagaland PWD observed the “52nd Engineers Day” on the theme “engineering for change” on Thursday, in the conference hall of the engineer-in-chief, NPWD complex, Kohima.
In a press release, Association of Engineers PWD informed that NPWD engineer-in-chief, Er. Kahuli Sema in the keynote address, expressed gratitude to God, who she said, was the “engineer of the engineers” and “architect of the architects”.
She said God had beautifully created heaven and earth but He assigned mankind to develop the world and thus created engineers.
Stressing on the theme “engineering for change”, Er. Kahuli said each and every engineer played an important role for nation building and had huge tasks in different fields.
In this regard, she encouraged the engineers present, to be sincere and dedicated towards their service.
In his brief presentation on “vision document of NPWD Housing”, chief engineer, NPWD (Housing), Er I Tiameran said Nagaland had 5377 government residential buildings of various types from Type I to VIP bungalow as per PWD housing building inventory 2019.
He informed that this was mostly constructed during 1960 and 1970s and some were beyond economical repair.
Disclosing that Nagaland had around 1,23,182 employees as per Nagaland state government payroll March 31, 2021, Er. Tiameren said only a fraction of government employees benefited in government accommodation and rest were either residing in their houses or private rented houses, paying huge rent fees.
In this regard, he said in order to overcome accommodation issues, the PWD Housing Nagaland has set a target by 2030 to achieve affordable housing in all the district headquarters and towns from present government accommodation availability of 4.37% to 5.20% by constructing 1000 dwelling units flat type.
He said in order to achieve the target, Nagaland Housing Board with new Nagaland Housing policy would be reactivated to strengthen the objective of providing affordable housing to all economic groups in all the districts and towns.
Later, Association of Engineers NPWD, president, Er. Hozheto Shikhu said September 15 was observed as Engineers Day to mark the birth anniversary of Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya popularly known as MV, the first Indian civil engineer, statesman in India.
Short speeches were also delivered by chief engineers.
The programme was chaired by chief engineer PWD, Mechanical, Er. Moasashi.
