Nsonji lake project inaugurated at Sendenyu

Inaugural programme of rejuvenation of Nsonji Lake Project under MGNREGS was held on February 17 at Sendenyu with commissioner & secretary, RD, Neposo Theluo as special guest.

A press release by joint director, Rural Development, Nagaland, K. Neibou Sekhose stated that while inaugurating the project, commissioner & secretary congratulated the communities such as VDBs of Sendenyu New, Thongsü-Sendenyu and Lotsüphün and Centenary Memorial Park Committee for judiciously utilising the funds given by the Department and completing a remarkable project in a short period.

Extending his appreciation to the community for developing the area as a bio-diversity conservation and eco-tourism destination, he stated that the village was recognised not only in the state and India but also in the world map for biodiversity conservation.

While stating that their village was blessed with vast land, both hilly and low, with immense potential for development, he hoped that very soon the village would also be recognised as a research centre of excellent learning.

Highlighting the project profile, chairman SBC Centenary Memorial Park Management Committee, Gwasinlo Thong stated that the primary objective of the project was to fully restore the “Nsonji” Lake and its ecosystem and provide wage employment to MGNREGA workers while keeping the vision of developing it in becoming a part of eco-tourism destination for its sustainability and economy to the stakeholders.

He shared that the project was implemented during the period 2019-20 to 2020-21 with a total project cost of Rs. 42.978 lakhs, generating 15003 person days.

In her address, director RD, Imnukshila Jamir congratulated the village for various awards received at national and international level in recent years for their efforts towards bio-diversity conservation.

While appreciating the community for conserving the environment, she urged them to continue to protect the biodiversity and work out ways to conserve their rich flora and fauna.

The programme for unveiling of monolith was chaired by BDO Tseminyu, Jenny K Thong, dedicatory prayer by Sr. Pastor, SBC, Rev. Gwasolo Semp, public reception was chaired by president Sendenyu Chipwen Union, Er. Njilo Kemp, Pastor SBC, Yhunyenlo Kent pronounced invocation, welcome address by chairman, Sendenyu VC, Hinilo Thong, special songs from various groups and vote of thanks by chairman Thongsü VC, Nyenlo Khing. The programme was attended by village council chairmen, VDB members, youth leaders, student leaders and women representatives of Sendenyu New, Thongsü-Sendenyu and Lotsüphün villages.

The commissioner & secretary was accompanied by director RD, joint secretary, RD, mission director NSRLM, addl. director RD, joint director RD, deputy director RD, project director, DRDA Kohima and other officers and staff.
