NZP team rescues Asian black bear

The animal rescue team of Nagaland Zoological Park (NZP), Rangapahar rescued one female Asian Black Bear (Ursusthibetanuslaniger) from Mokokchung district on December 2. The bear cub was found abandoned by its mother in the forest of Mangmetong village under Mokokchung district.
A press release from Nagaland Zoological Park, Rangapahar Dimapur informed that it was due to the timely intervention of I Akum Imsong that the cub was safely rescued and nursed till sub-adult and later handed the animal to the animal rescue team of NZP for rehabilitation in the zoo.
The director of NZP, Dr. C. ZupeniTsanglai, lauded the efforts made by I Akum Imsong to save cub. The director in a statement said that the Asian Black Bear also known as Asiatic Black Bear, Moon Bear or white-chested bear is a sub-species of Himalayan Black Bear and is a threatened (vulnerable) species under IUCN (3.1) and a schedule II (Part I) species protected under the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972.
