‘Operation Lotus’ has led Nagas astray: Cong

Correspondent

All India Congress Committee (AICC) media coordinator Mahima Singh alleged Monday alleged that ‘Operation Lotus’ of BJP has led the people of Nagaland astray as the coalition government in Nagaland has been tainted with “scams after scams” and betrayed the people of Nagaland in the name of development, joining hands with BJP.
Addressing a press conference at Congress Bhavan here, Singh said that the party primarily wanted to highlight about the High Court scam under Neiphiu Rio-led coalition government’s rule in Nagaland. She said that following a PIL filed by Nagaland Tribes Council, the Gauhati High Court took cognizance of the matter and ordered for a CBI probe. Till then BJP was nowhere in the picture, she said.
Following this, Mahima stated that ‘Operation Lotus’ of BJP not only struck its roots in Nagaland, but also expanded so much that the chief minister sits before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for the wrongdoing of his own, and the fallouts and shortcomings of his government.
She pointed out that in 2007, Congress-led UPA government had made necessary amendments to the Constitution effected in 2012 wherein arrangements were made for independent High Courts for Nagaland, Meghalaya, Tripura and Manipur.
She said that while High Court buildings in Meghalaya, Manipur and Tripura were completed in 2013, Nagaland was still awaiting its own, despite sanctions to the tune of Rs. 70 crore made for construction of High Court. However, the building was nowhere to be seen, she said.
Mahima alleged that while even the basic structure of the high court building had not been completed, the Rio-led coalition government had withdrawn around Rs 44.24 crore in the name of electrification and water supply. She further claimed that Rs 22.42 crore was sanctioned for construction of bungalows for judges even though no area was earmarked for the same.
“What a farce the Rio government in collusion with BJP tried to play on the people of Nagaland, on the learned advocates of Nagaland and the whole the justice system of Nagaland,” she said.
She mentioned that the chief minister should have resigned on moral grounds, but instead his government continued to siphon public money even though Rio was facing probe by ED.
AICC media coordinator said that the Rs.70-crore High Court scam has actually turned into the gateway for ‘Operation Lotus’. She alleged that BJP had sabotaged the people’s interest all over the country in the name of development.
“On the brink of ensuing election, Rio and his partners land before the ED being probed for severe corruption in the High Court scam, but allowing the Centre to remote control Nagaland by misappropriating agencies so that draconian laws like CAA and UCC may be imposed upon the innocent people of Nagaland, that are bound to trample their fundamental rights,” Mahima stated.
She stressed that Nagaland must defeat the politics of corruption, deceit and opportunism in the ensuing Assembly election by voting out BJP-NDPP combine to save Nagaland from becoming
Assam, Manipur, Goa, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh.
On the NDPP (40):BJP(20) seat sharing issue, Singh said the BJP was now fighting for 30:30. She cautioned that if BJP was allowed to expand, it would open a gateway for sabotaging of the fundamental rights of the people of the state.
“If 30:30 happens, it is going to be the end of the fundamental rights as it’s going to be the onset of Citizenship Amendment Act and Uniform Civil Code,” she said.
Meanwhile, when asked about the preparation for the Assembly polls, NPCC working president Khriedi Theünuo disclosed that there were 37 serious ticket aspirants, including women, and that the party had still kept its door open for like-minded people to join.
