PBUD to continue with shop closure

Staff Reporter

Even as closure of all the pork butcher shops in Dimapur began on Monday, Pork Butchers Union Dimapur (PBUD) affirmed that closure would continue till the issue was addressed. PBUD decided to close butcher shops in protest against the Assam government ban on transportation of pigs through the state of Assam.
PBUD president Shikato T Swu told Nagaland Post that the union has decided to urge the authorities to take up the issue with Assam counterpart and explain on what basis ban was imposed.
In this regard, he said the union would also be submitting a memorandum to chief veterinary officer Dimapur.
Stating that wholesalers were selling “Assam local” pigs at high rate, Swu said the union would ban import of “Assam local” until pig supplies from other states were allowed.
