PHED Wokha, Dimapur organise ‘Swachhta Run’

Commemorating the “World Toilet Day”, Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), Wokha and Dimapur Divisions organised a “Swachhta Run” on Saturday.
According to a DIPR report, the participants of the Swachhta Run at at Zero Point, Sanis Block included WATSAN Mmembers, swachhagrahis, ASHA and Anganwadi workers, volunteers, youth, and schoolchildren, among others.
Before flagging off the run, Er. Cheni, SDO Sanis, stated that the “Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen)” has been acknowledged as the greatest behaviour change initiative in the world.
He said the mission reflects the influencing force of peoples’ behaviour —”Jal Andolan”—that transformed the lives of rural India’s populace in terms of social benefits, economic gains, environmental safety, and most importantly, dignity and security to women. According to him, the second phase of SBM (G) was concentrated on enhancing this solid base of healthy habits and inspiring action toward open-defecation free plus.
District Coordinator, PHED, Chuba Longchar stated that the “Swachhta Run” goal was to raise awareness among people about the importance of usage of a toilet, safe sanitation and visual cleanliness aligned to SBM (G) phase II components.
At the beginning of the run, each participant took the “Swachhta Pledge”. Along the run’s route, banners, posters, and other IEC materials from SBM (G) Phase II were on display.
In Dimapur, the PHED Dimapur Division in collaboration with the Can Youth organized a Swachhta Run on the theme “Making the invisible visible” at Dhansiriphar with asst commandant Sinulal D, Dimapur Bn Assam Rifles as special guest. In his speech, Sinulal appreciated the department for organising the event.
He led the Swachhta Pledge and flagged off the Swachhta Run from Government High School, Dhansiripar Village to Dayapur Village Ground.
District coordinator, DWSM PHED, Dimapur, Imojungla Longkumar spoke about the purpose of World Toilet Day which was started in 2013 and has been observed every year. She also spoke on theme of World Toilet Day 2022 and stressed on the importance of maintaining good sanitation.
Engineer Hotolu Sema JE, PHE- Dhansiripar, Dimapur gave a demo on the Twin Pit Technology emphasized on maintaining a good toilet for good health.
Head GB, Doyapur-cum-Dimasa GB Union president, Phiju Langthasa extended gratitude for organizing an event for the Dhansiripar community.
