Plantation drive marks Western Sumi Totimi Hoho silver jubilee celebration

Commemorating its silver jubilee celebration, Western Sumi Totimi Hoho (WSTH) launched a year-long celebration by organising a plantation drive at Sumi cultural centre, Vihokhu, here, on Tuesday.
The day also marked its Foundation Day and commemoration of World Environment Day on the theme “Küqhakulu Kikimiye kumuto”.
In the greeting message, Sumi Hoho president, Nikheto Zhimo said Sumi Hoho declared 2022 as the year of Sumi unity.
Calling for retrospection among members of the community, he urged upon them to make “Sumi Unity” a mission.
Describing women as peacemakers, Zhimo said that peace was more easily achieved and more durable when women were included in the peacemaking process.
In this regard, he called for the full involvement of women in maintaining peace among the community.
Pointing out that many tribes resided in Western Sumi areas, he encouraged the community to foster unity and peace among the rest of the communities.
Introducing and welcoming the guests, WSTH president Visheli S Yeptho highlighted the history of WSTH and said the nomenclature was coined under the initiative of Ghosuho Zhimomi who was the president of Western Sumi Hoho in 1998.
She informed that various events have been planned to commemorate the jubilee along with the construction of a silver jubilee memorial building at Eralibill.
Meanwhile, former WSTH president, Vihuli S Zhimo expressed gratitude to the pioneers and all who contributed to the growth of WSTH and the community.
Informing that Sumi Cultural Centre Vihokhu was donated to the community by justice president, State Commission Consumer Redressal Forum, and chairperson, Advisory Board, S Hukato Swu and district session judge, Kohima Khesheli Chishi, the former WSTH president appealed to Sumi Hoho to assign a caretaker(s) for the centre so that they may take care of the new saplings.
Altogether, 200 saplings were planted at the plantation drive, which was attended by advisor for Power, H Tovihoto Ayemi, advisor for Tourism, Art and Culture Khehovi Yepthomi, Y Vikheho Swu, MLA and chairman District Planning, Pughoboto, Azheto Zhimomi, MLA and Er Picto Shohe, MLA.
At the programme, invocation was offered by Western Sumi Baptist Akukuhou Kuqhakulu (WSBAK) executive secretary reverend Dr. Phughoto Sema, welcome address by WSTH president, cultural song by Sumi Totimi loka, Ikishe ghami, vote of thanks was proposed by WSTH organising committee convenor Kakheli Vikheshe and benediction was offered by WSBAK DoWM secretary, Kakheli Inato Zhimomi.
The plantation drive saw participation from legislators and frontal organisations.
It may be mentioned that the saplings were donated by the Dimapur Forest Division. The WSTH silver jubilee is scheduled to be held in the year 2023.
