Police initiates measures for free and fair polls

With the announcement of the State assembly elections to be held from February 27 and the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) in force, the State police, as directed by the Election Commission would initiating all confidence building measures to ensure inducement free, threat free open atmosphere for conduct of free and fair elections.
In a statement, DGP Nagaland Rupin Sharma said the police along with central paramilitary forces have already started taking various measures to prevent transportation and distribution of illegal liquor, unauthorised cash, drugs, arms & ammunition and other contraband substances.
These measures include motor vehicle checkings, area domination in the form of route marches, patrolling, hotel checking etc.
DGP said that these Actions would be conducted in the whole of Nagaland till the election process was over.
DGP appealed to the public for coordination and cooperation with the security forces and election machinery in the State for ensuring smooth conduct of elections.
Meanwhile, security personnel including police, CRPF, IRB and Special Task Force on Thursday carried out a flag march in Chümoukedima town area under the supervision of ACP, Ninoto I Zhimomi.
The objective of the flag march conducted by police and central forces was to ensure peace and harmony in view of the forthcoming assembly polls and aimed at reinforcing public confidence in law and order machinery and also in building friendly relations between the police and the public, a DIPR report stated.
The flag march was carried out from Agri Expo gate and culminated at Chümoukedima Town CT Square.
