‘Poshan Abhiyaan’ held in Dimapur, Mon

A “Rashtriya Poshan Abhiyaan programme on the theme, “traditional foods for woman and children in tribal areas” was held on Tuesday, at Kuda Youth Hall, Kuda Village, Dimapur.
According to a DIPR report, Child Development Officer (CDPO) Dimapur (U), Renchano Odyuo in a brief address, said the campaign has been functioning for the past five years and that the focus of “abhiyaan” was to emphasise the nutritional status of adolescent girls, pregnant women, lactating mothers, and children from 0-6 years of age.
She added that Poshan 2.0 seeks to address the challenges of malnutrition in children, adolescent girls, pregnant women, and lactating mothers through a strategic shift in nutrition content and delivery and by the creation of a convergent ecosystem to develop and promote practices that nurture health, wellness, and immunity.
Odyuo then urged the people to take more local food as it gives more nutrition and helps improve health and also to promote more local traditional food.
In a short speech, SDO (C), Development Dimapur, L. Samuel urged the people to consume organic food as it more nutritious and encouraged the gathering to grow their own food.
In the sensitisation of Fortified rice, programme officer, SBCC, CHRI of Food Fortification, Kakugha T. Aye said that Fortified Rice, contains FSSAI prescribed micronutrients (Iron, Folic Acid, Vitamin B12) to normal Rice (Custom Milled Rice) in the ratio of 1:100 (Mixing 1 Kg of FRK with 100 Kg custom milled rice).
He said that fortified rice is very identical to traditional rice in aroma, taste, and texture and the process is done in the rice mills at the time of milling of rice.
Other highlights of the programme include local food shops by 12 SHGs under RD-NSRLM, on-the-spot distribution of IEC materials of fortified rice, demonstration of fortified rice, and video streaming of an online cooking competition on nutritious food for women and children.
Mon: National Service Scheme (NSS) unit Wangkhao Government College (WGC) Mon on September 20 organised a rally to observe “Rashtriya Poshan Maah”.
In a press release, NSS WGC Mon informed that the rally started from Civil Hospital Junction till Local Ground Mon where students held placards which reads, “Eat Healthy Stay Healthy”, “Eat Right Future Bright”, “Health is wealth” etc. to spread awareness on “education with nutrition” (Poshan Bhi Padhaai Bhi) focusing on children under 6 years, adolescent girls, pregnant mothers and lactating mothers.
The rally was also attended by NSS programme officers, Manwang Konyak and Manlee Konyak.
