Various trainings, demonstrations and interactions are being organised for farmers so that they could incorporate the latest scientific advances and technology tools to enhance their productivity and increase their efficiency.
ATMA Tuensang: Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA), Tuensang organised farmers scientist interaction on the theme, “International Year of Millets 2023” on March 30 at New Chingmei Village. During the interactive session, topics on, potential of millets to generate farmers income and ensure food and nutritional security, importance of cropping system to enhance productivity and sustainable, soil fertility management and management strategies for fall armyworm were briefly highlighted by subject experts, DAO & PD ATMA, department of agriculture, T. Supongmar Longchar, SCA, department of Soil & Water Conservation, Sentimongba, ACTO (Agro), Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Samuel Sangtam, and DPD, ATMA, Dr. Toshimenla. The interactive meet was attended by 20 farmers from Old and New Chingmei villages.
In a separate event, ATMA Tuensang organised a “field day on mustard” including crop cutting experiment on March 29 at Tuensang Village, to showcase the varietal performance of the mustard variety “RGN 298”. At the programme, AFA, department of agriculture, Mosa Somba briefed the farmers about the importance, prospects and production technology of RGN 298. Farm expert, Takum Chang also shared his experience and benefits on mustard cultivation while ACTO(Agro) KVK, Samuel Sangtam highlighted about the importance of oilseed crops. Altogether, 16 farmers participated in the programme. A practical demonstration on crop cutting experiment was also conducted. The field day was coordinated by DPD, ATMA, Tuensang, Dr. Toshimenla, and was also attended by the farmers from nearby villages.
SDAO Naginimora: Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officer (SDAO) Naginimora office held a “free distribution of Naga king chilli seedlings programme” on March 30 at Naginimora, with Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Naginimora, Temsuwati Longkumer as the special guest. The programme was attended by 63 farmers and around 3500 seedlings were distributed.
KVK Kohima: Day-long farmers scientist interaction cum multidisciplinary training programme was organised by Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Kohima on March 29, at Phenwhennyu Village.
The main objective of the interaction programme was to exchange views and experiences directly with farmers on different problems in agriculture and allied sectors. The resource persons were SMS (Plant Protection), Eliseni Tsopoe, SMS (Soil Conservation), Imtinuksung and ACTO (Animal Science), Dr. Paihem Michui.
During the training, the farmers were briefed on organic management of kharif crops, management of fall armyworm, an invasive pest and threat to food security and animal health care. The farmers also interacted with scientists on various forms of cultivation, pest and disease management.
Peren: Farmers training under Human Resource Development, Central Institute of Horticulture (CIH) Nagaland organised by Suiketbau Agro Fed Producer Company Limited, Salt Range Foods Pvt Ltd CBBO, NAFED was held on March 25-28 at Beisupuikam Village, Peren district. During the training, the resource persons, assistant specialist horticulture, Medziphema, Dr. Mousosang and Kotuing Daime, experienced scientific beekeeper, conducted five session wherein scientific bee keeping and horticulture farming were discussed.
ATMA Nagaland: Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) Nagaland comprising of four districts viz. Kohima, Wokha, Mokokchung and Zunheboto conducted within state farmers training and exposure visit on March 27-29 at the Central Institute of Horticulture (CIH) Medziphema Nagaland, Nagaland Bamboo Resource centre, Sovima, Mushroom Development Centre at State Horticulture Nursery (Green Park) and Organic A.C Market at (Agri Expo) Nagaland. Resource persons at the CIH were, horticulture specialist, A.K Singh, senior farm manager, Petekhrienuo, JRF, DBT, Jungshienla Jamir, senior technical assistant, Mhasizotuo and technical consultant, Arvind Singh.
Farmers were trained on nursery management techniques in horticulture. Demonstration on the nursery management of rootsocks on Citrus (Mandarin) and Grafting of Mandarin was also done with an active participation of the farmers. Altogether 50 farmers from the four districts and 13 ATMA officials comprising of six deputy project directors, two Block Technology Managers, four Assistant Technology Mangers and one computer Operator participated in the programme.
ATMA Dimapur: Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) Dimapur organised within state farmers training cum exposure visit to State Soil & Water Conservation Research Centre, Sechu Zubza on March 30. The programme focused on the protection of soil & water resources which is critical for the health of the earth’s resources, watersheds, and plants and animals. A total of 15 farmers and four ATMA staffs were part of the visit. Resource persons, ASCO (R) Zuchumi Ovung highlighted the visiting team on different conservation measures of soil while S.C.A, Pango Lea talked about the importance of soil and water conservation. The training consisted of theoretical, interactive and practical sessions.
