Rio announces special awards for NE Games medal winners

State chief minister, Neiphiu Rio announced that it would give special cash awards to the medal winners of the 2nd NE Olympics Games scheduled to be held from November 10 to 16 at Shillong, Meghalaya.
According to DIPR, the chief minister made the announcement at the send-off programme of the athletes and coaches organized by Nagaland Olympic Association (NOA) in Kohima on October 27.
Rio, who is also the president of NOA, said that cash prize of Rs. 50,000, Rs. 25,000 and Rs. 10,000 will be awarded to gold, silver and bronze medalists.
Noting that, Nagaland needed a collective joint effort to make sports a sustainable pursuit to be at par with the Northeastern States, the chief minister called upon all to put up a concerted effort to excel at sports at the national and international level and not waste too much time and resources in blaming one another.
He also added that the State government will be constructing indoor stadiums and Astro turfs playgrounds in all the district headquarters and will continue to facilitate training, coaching besides establishing an academy.
According NOA secretary general, Abu Metha, Nagaland will be sending a total of 305 athletes including coaches and officials to represent the State and will participate in 17 disciplines out of the 18 disciplines to be played in the NE Olympic Games.
