Rs 4-5-crore loss in Mao Market fire

Correspondent

The devastating fire that broke out in Mao Market on Monday had completely gutted at least 78 rooms in NN Market here and nearby personal properties.
NN Market proprietor Beizo estimated the losses in the fire to be around Rs 4-5 crore. A shopkeeper of the market informed Nagaland Post that she had a received phone call around 4:50 pm from an eyewitness informing her that the market was on fire and that she rushed to the site to save whatever items she could.
However, she lamented that she could retrieve nothing as the blazing inferno had already consumed her shop.
Some eyewitnesses claimed that the fire started from Mao Market and, after sometime, LPG cylinders from nearby hotel burst that further fuelled the flames, completely engulfing NN Market.
Due to polling day, the market gates were locked for which no one could break into their shops to salvage their items, another lady shop owner lamented.
Rokoneizo Viswensto claimed that he had lost goods worth Rs 1.60 lakh approximately. He said he lost all his original documents pertaining to his business and that he was able to retrieve only his wallet and a card holder.
