Rush at flower stalls on V-Day eve in Dimapur

A day ahead of Valentine’s Day, markets and streets in Dimapur have been filled with sales of Valentine’s roses and gifts involving local entrepreneurs.
It may be mentioned that popular items like soft toys and chocolates are still getting added, Valentine’s Day gifting this year was about practical choices. Stalls are set up on the stretch of the market, some for fund raise and some by entrepreneurs selling home-made items.
Speaking to some of the sellers here Monday, at Nyamo Lotha Road Dimapur, one lady rose vendor said that this year people are not showing much enthusiasm on buying roses rather they are opting for gifts. “People are more inclined for online purchase, after lockdown”, she added. However, she was also hopeful that the number of roses that they have ordered could be sold off by evening.
Roses are mostly pre-ordered export from Bangalore, after receiving the parcel, it was packed and sold at a price ranging from Rs. 50 – Rs. 70 (single) to Rs. 350- 500 (bouquet budget wise), the young lady said.
Varieties of gift hampers, kits filled with scented candles, coffee, nuts, love pillows etc. were also seen sold in the market. Love balloons were seen hanging, sales on various items were also an option for buyers for their love ones.
An elderly man who was seen buying rose, spoke to this reporter mentioned that he has been married for the last 38 years and such a day to express love should be celebrated for it, once in a year.
