SAMETI organises STRY programme

DIMAPUR: State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI), Medziphema in association with National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management (MANAGE), Hyderabad organised a Skill Training of Rural Youth (STRY) programme on “piggery rearing and management” from March 21-26.
In a press release, director SAMETI Medziphema, director SAMETI and principal IETC, Dr. Watimongla Jamir in her keynote address said piggery, despite being one of the most commercially viable livestock in the state faced a large gap in cost-benefit ratio resulting in poor profit margins due to lack of proper technical knowledge.
To mitigate these issues, she encouraged participants to take the training programme seriously.
During the programme, resource persons were VAS lecturer Dr. Vinato S. Chishi, boar station in-charge PBC VFATI Medziphema Dr. Yhuntilo Kent and deputy director DMC, Dr. Sentinungla Ao.
The training programme covered technical sessions on introduction to piggery rearing, breeds suitable for Nagaland, diseases in pigs and their control measures, pig farm bio-security, feed management, economic sustenance through pig farming, etc.
Later, participants visited piggery farm at Veterinary Field Assistant Training Institute (VFATI), Medziphema followed by demonstration on restraining of pigs, handling of piglets, deworming and types of pig feeds, etc.
Altogether, 15 participants were trained and certificates were handed.
