SAMETI organises training for ATMA functionaries

A two-day training on “market driven millets production, processing and value addition technologies” was organised by State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI) for Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) functionaries on May 10-11 at SAMETI, Medziphema.
A press release by SAMETI, Medziphema informed that the main mandate of the training was to raise awareness about the modern aspects of improving millet productivity through scientific cultivation technology and the importance of value addition in millets for human diet and human economy.
Resource persons for the training, chief technical officer, Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Porba from Phek district, Dr. Hannah Krujila Asangla and senior technical assistant, department of entomology School of Agricultural Sciences and Rural Development (SASRD) Nagaland University (NU) Medziphema, deliberated on the “status, market, scope of millet and community seed bank for conserving local germplasm in Nagaland and India” and the “integrated pest management of millet” respectively.
During the two days training, participants were made to visit primary Millet processing Unit at Department of Genetics and Plant Breeding, SASRD: NU Medziphema campus.
The trainees were provided hands-on demonstration, resource person, associate project lead, North East network Nagaland, Munulu Chuzhu covered on different topic of value addition preparation of millet pancake, millet sweets, jobs tear dessert and millet namkee.
He also encouraged the participants to take up the value addition in millet, which is highly demand in the state of Nagaland and fetched a good price in the market for sustainability and commercially.
The valedictory program was chaired by deputy project director, SAMETI, Yezaho Swu; feedback on the training was given by the participants; certificates were distributed to the trainees by director SAMETI and principal IETC, Dr. Watimongla Jamir and vote of thanks was delivered by DPD SAMETI, Janet Chishi.
