SAMETI organizes STRY training on floriculture

State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI), Medziphema organised a six-day Skill Training of Rural Youth (STRY) programme on “Floriculture”, from March 6 to 11, in association with National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management (MANAGE), Hyderabad.
A press release by SAMETI stated that resources persons for the training program were specialist in Floriculture & Landscaping, JRF (Citrus Project), DBT, Jungshienla Jamir, and consultant from Central Institute of Horticulture (CIH), Medziphema, Arvind Singh.
The training covered topics on production and marketing of ornamental plants with special reference to Nagaland, general management of low-cost green house, low-cost shade net house and basic concept and principles of flower arrangement.
Hands-on practical sessions on media preparation, uses of garden tools, identification of ornamental plants, propagation of flowers by cutting, flower arrangement, bouquet preparation were conducted.
Trainees were taken for a field visit to Central Institute of Horticulture (CIH), Medziphema, to see the functioning of different green houses.
The release added that in the inaugural program, Deputy Project Director, SAMETI and Nodal Officer STRY, Tiajungla Longchar, delivered an overview of STRY and welcomed the participants, while Director SAMETI & Principal IETC, Medziphema, Dr. Watimongla Jamir, encouraged participants to come out of their comfort zones and look for entrepreneurial opportunities.
A total 17 rural youths were trained who received certificates and training manuals.
