Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Thursday ruled out an independent probe on the arrest of BJP state Vice President Bernard Marak, who is accused of running a brothel at his farmhouse in West Garo Hills district.
He said a police probe is on together with a magisterial inquiry which would suffice and the investigation is yielding results and would continue.
“There is no reason to have an independent probe,” the Chief Minister said.
On Monday, State BJP president Ernest Mawrie submitted a memorandum to Governor Satya Pal Malik seeking an independent probe into the arrest and also harassment of its party workers.
