SASU gets firefighting equipments under NMHS

The department of Environment, Forests & Climate Change, Nagaland, handed over essential firefighting and Safety equipments to the Southern Angami Students Union (SASU) under the National Mission on Himalayan Studies (NMHS) project on November 23 at the office of the Principal Chief Conservator of Forest & Head of Forest Force in the presence of APCCF Nagaland, Ved Pal Singh, CF (STC), Zuthunglo Patton and other forest officials.
A press release issued by Forest department stated that speaking on forest fire management, Singh said that the involvement of youth is very important in combating and tackling forest fire and such rapid response may be a way forward. He mentioned that prevention and checking of fire breakouts in the forests should be first priority followed by mitigation of the forest fires. He appealed the SASU to make the best use of the equipments and to store in a safe place when not in use.
The distribution of such tools and safety gear to SASU is the first of its kind by the department under the NMHS project. The various items issued to them are fire beaters, fire hooks, ABC type fire extinguishers, walkie talkie sets, tents, fiber fire blankets, safety helmets, fire buckets, fire resistant gloves suede, pulaski axes, DCP powder, shovels, rucksack bag 50 litres, head strap torch rechargeable, emergency light rechargeable, woollen socks, goggles and water pump. The SASU thanked the department for the various equipments distributed to them and assured that they would use them wisely and continue to strive towards preventing forest fires.
