Members of Sümi Community Naharbari East Dimapur (SCNED) celebrated Ahuna festival of the Sümi tribe with traditional fervour at the residence of SCNED chairman Phoishe Zhimomi here Tuesday.
Clad in colourful traditional attires, community members both young and old joined the celebration of post-harvest festival that was observed with rich display of Sümi culture and practice.
At the celebration programme, Phushito Aye, spoke about the significance of Ahuna festival, where he called for not only preserving the rich culture and tradition but passing them down to younger generation.
On the occasion, the members present were enthralled with cultural performances such as “aphilo kuwo” by womenfolk, traditional top spinning competition and “Lejole” by menfolk. They were also served with “Ahuna”—rice cooked in bamboo segments.
GBs, Representatives and leaders from other tribal communities of Naharbari also attended the programme. Earlier, SBANED Pastor Yekuto Shohe, gave invocation while NCRC Purana Bazar Pastor Dr. Nitoshe Nekha offered benediction.
Programme was chaired by SCNED vice chairman Ghohezhe Achumi and SCNED chairman Phoishe Zhimomi delivered vote of thanks. After the programme, the community members joined the Ahuna feast.
